Loadbearing MShelving

Haven't posted much this week (getting ready for High Point), but I'll leave you this weekend with Loadbearing, a "US/Swiss" company that has a couple products. Shown here is their MShelving system. Not much information is available on their site, but it looks like a highly modular (and customizable) metal frame storage system with either powder coated steel or wood veneer sliding doors. No pricing given, but they do claim to be "good value" so maybe there's hope. Looks like a good effort overall. They will be at ICFF, so hopefully we can learn more there.

Arc Table

Received a note from Ashley Hall at Diplomat Design that their Arc table for Zeritalia was named to the ADI index, putting on the shortlist for the Compasso d'Oro, the big Italian deisgn award that will be given out next in 2007. And well deserved it is, as this table has some great detailing. The way the cast aluminum legs blend into the frame is really nice. Another subtle touch that's hard to read in photos is the edges on the glass top. Those little arc shaped strips are actually beveled cuts.

Tavoli Table

They call this a table, but it looks more like a bench to me. Anyway, it's a big stack of veneer strips bolted together through some legs. Because the strips aren't glued, the whole thing is free to move around and change its shape. Interesting idea from Massimo Barbierato and Stefano Fariselli at 2730 Project.

Antoine Phelouzat: "Play" Shelving

"Play" is a really cool modular shelving system from Antoine Phelouzat. It uses a series of polypropylene pieces that interlock without any tools. Great idea and execution. No distributor yet, but I'm sure that will change.
Available at www.movisi.com, and very reasonably priced too.

Steal a Table

I really like the base on this "Steal a Table" (bad name) from England's Burnt Toast Design. It's steel. Hence the name, I guess. Too bad you can't remove the legs though. No price, but the shipping over here would be brutal anyway.

Make Furniture

Tucson based Make Furniture is coming out with an interesting modular casegoods line this year. They have a few standard case sizes that can be combined in different ways with a bent aluminum base. Pretty nice execution of an idea that gets tried a lot. No pricing, and their website is pretty rudimentary. I'd like to see a way to build and preview your own piece right on the website.

Metrofarm Concrete Tables

Metrofarm does a lot of interesting work in concrete. I especially like the leg detail on this series of tables. It's really just about perfect. They don't say anything about pricing or availability. They also don't say much about themselves. I gather that they are based in Germany, but beyond that, it's all a mystery.
